Northern Communities: Milliken Colorado
Established in 1907, Milliken Colorado is located approximately 4.2 miles to the east of Johnstown. The town was named after a pioneer lawyer, Judge John Milliken, who helped establish the Denver, Laramie, and Northwestern Railroad (DL&N). With the growth of the sugar beef industry and its transport, Milliken was a hub of commerce in northern Colorado.
Milliken Colorado suffered disastrous fires near the turn of the century, one of which destroyed three businesses in the town. Also, a decline in railroad transportation hurt the small community's economy. Recently, though, the future is looking much brighter for the town!
Many changes have occurred in the community during the past 20 years; streets were paved in 1987 and the town now boasts a population of over 3,957 residents. The town has two parks, an active senior's program, low crime rates and a state-of-the-art community complex opened in 1996, which houses the Town Hall and other facilities.
The town continues to grow and still benefits from the farming land which first drew developers and settlers. Welcome to this wonderful community!
