Northern Communities: Mead Colorado
Mead Colorado was founded in 1886 by Martin S. Mead and became a town in 1905, when the Great Western Sugar Company built a railroad spur and sugar beet dump. By 1910, Mead claimed 114 residents, and today, Mead is a little town with a big future!
Located only 9.1 miles north of Longmont, the town continues to be a traditional farming community with several new housing neighborhoods. The surrounding area has become increasingly popular to developers interested in capitalizing on the industrial development boom, presently taking place along I-25. Some major employers include Artemis Rubber Technology, Design Conveying Systems, and Mountain Molding.
Industries providing employment: Manufacturing (18.4%); Educational, health, and social services (16.5%); Construction (14.8%); Professional, scientific, management, administration, and waste management services (10.8%).
Even with so much growth, this small town continues to come together as a community, such as the annual Halloween Parade that travels around the school. If you are looking for small town living near the “big” city, come see us!
