Lyons Colorado in the Distance |
Mountain Communities: Lyons Colorado
Lyons Colorado was founded in 1880 by Edward S. Lyon, platted in 1881, and incorporated in 1891. Distinguished by rugged red cliffs that border the town, Lyons uses its signature red sandstone in architecture throughout the community. The Town, itself, features enough amenities to be comfortable, but still enjoys a traditional small town atmosphere. Some of the best mountain hiking, biking, fly fishing, tube floating, and rock climbing can be found outside of Lyons. Located only 14.2 miles north of Boulder, Lyons is the confluence of the North and South St. Vrain Creeks. Whichever activity you choose, a river is a great way to cool oneself on a hot summer day!
The town boasts three Town Parks, summer concerts, Saturday night square dances, and an annual Bluegrass Festival. Downtown shopping includes several cafes, antique shops and art galleries. Tour the Historic District and visit the Redstone Museum. The Black Bear Restaurant is famous for their fine dining.
Open Space abounds on the borders of the community with the Hall and Heil Ranches, which together total 10,000 acres. Public use is available for the majority of multiuse trails for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians. Lyons is part of the distinguished St. Vrain School System. A fun town!
