Mountain Communities: Jamestown Colorado
Established in 1867, Jamestown is located only 10 miles northwest of Boulder. Jamestown is one of the oldest mining towns in Colorado. At one time, 400 miners lived in Jamestown and produced a windfall of more than $5,000,000 (at today's prices) in gold and copper. Today, the town's most visible elements are a series of old cabins, now converted to splendid "year round" residences.
Recreational opportunites abound in this community...from trailheads in nearby James and Lefthand Canyons, to the steep paved roads popular with many of Boulder's road cyclists. Also, many dirt mining roads are available for four-wheel driving.
The town can be a fascinating stopping place. Be sure to visit the Merchantile Cafe and strike up a conversation with some locals. Home to many independent thinkers and artists, come visit Jamestown on a lazy, sunny afternoon!
