Northern Communities: Dacono Colorado
Dacono Colorado has a long history as a coal mining town; established in 1906, platted in 1907, and incorporated in 1908. The town's name was coined from choosing the first two letters from the first names of three local residents, Daisy Baum , Cora Van Vorhies and Nora Brooks. Dacono is a friendly community in southern Weld County, 20 miles north of Denver. This area, in general, is commonly known as Carbon Valley or the Tri-Town area with sister towns of Firestone and Frederick.
With over 3,700 residents, the community is steadily growing; one of the largest municipal flags in the country proudly flies at the War Memorial near the water tower. Citizens decide how the local government will be organized and how local problems should be solved. Recreation facilities include Clem DuFour City Park, Carbon Valley Recreation Center, and Tri-Town Senior Citizens Center. Even today, the town retains much of its Old-Western heritage and charm.
