Louisville Colorado

Louisville Colorado has approximately 19,000 residents and is located in Boulder County about 8.5 east of Boulder and 25 miles northwest of Denver. Historically, during the time period of 1890 to 1928, over 30 coal mines were located in and around Louisville. In 1952 the last of these mines closed. Flowers and a golf course now flourish with never a hint of the mining history and underground passageways they now cover.

The transition between the old and new communities has been carefully planned. Abundant recreation activities are now available, including vast acres of open space, major ski areas within 110 miles, gambling at Blackhawk/Central City within 50 miles, and the Recreation and Senior Center. The Coal Creek Golf Course of 6,957 yards is designed to feature the natural terrain of the land and provides an exciting challenge for the novice as well as the more accomplished player. The city provides small town living with easy access to the economic and cultural opportunities of metropolitan areas. The spectacular scenery of the Rocky Mountains to the west is only a few miles away.

Home for the past 35 years, Storage Technology Corporation (STC) is the maker of large, powerful data storage tape libraries and disk systems. Its new library system can store the equivalent of 75 million compact discs. The company was modestly started in a cramped upper level office space.

In 2005, Storage Tek was sold to Sun Microsystems.  In 2008, ConocoPhillips bought the 432 acre campus for $58,500,000 with the futuristic concept to research hydrogen fuel cells, solar/wind power, clean diesel fuel, and to build a global training and technology center for Renewable Energy.

In an April 2010 meeting, the Louisville City Council approved Conoco Phillips' preliminary plans for a 2,500,000 square foot campus. The first phase is scheduled to open in 2013 with additional phases planned over the next 22 years.

The town today...nostalgic charm of Main Street and the past. High tech businesses now flourish throughout the city. The rich heritage of traditions and values form the present day foundation for a thriving modern community.
